Overview
Salem Scavenger Hunt is a self-guided walking tour of Salem, Massachusetts. We built it to be played, not to collect data about you. The mobile apps and the website do not contain ads, do not use an advertising ID, and do not track you across other apps or websites.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, contact details, precise or approximate location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any advertising or device identifiers. We do not sell or share personal information with third parties, and we do not use your information for advertising or marketing.
Information stored on your device
Your progress through the thirteen stops is saved locally in your own browser or app storage so you can pick up where you left off. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can erase it at any time with the reset button in the app or by clearing your browser data.
Website accounts and payment
Visitors who unlock the hunt on our website create an account with an email address, which is used only to sign in and remember that the hunt is unlocked. Payments on the website are handled by Stripe; card details are entered on Stripe's own secure checkout and never reach our servers. We receive only a confirmation that the payment succeeded. Mobile app users pay through the App Store or Google Play and do not create an account with us.
Services used
Map tiles are supplied by OpenStreetMap, and spoken narration is generated by OpenAI's text-to-speech service from the tour text we wrote. These services receive only the request needed to draw a map or read a passage aloud — no account information.
Children
The hunt is family-friendly and contains no ads or user-to-user features. It is not directed at children under 13, and we knowingly collect no information from them.
